Volunteers assist James House staff members in providing advocacy services and maintaining our crisis hotline. Volunteers also serve in special areas of interest such as , organizing our donation center and assisting with special one-time projects such as delivering furniture to clients or organizing fundraisers and special events.
With a small staff of advocates, we serve over 1,600 people in crisis each year. This would not be possible without help from our great community volunteers who have a passion for our mission. Regardless of age, education level, or beliefs, there is something for everyone to do at James House.
Below are just a few of the volunteer opportunities consistently provided by James House.
-
Office Assistants sort donations, organize our donation center/clothing closet, shred documents, make copies, file, answer our business line, and more.
-
Crisis Intervention Volunteers respond to the 24-hour crisis hotline, assist with shelter placements and protect the confidentiality and security of our clients.
-
Emergency Advocates are on call 24 hours a day and are available to meet those experiencing a domestic and/or sexual violence crisis at the hospital.
Volunteer training is offered 5-6 times per year. This extensive, interactive, pre-service instruction provides trainees with a wide variety of learning experiences revolving around family and sexual violence, crisis intervention, and helping skills.
