The James House

Since 1989, The James House (TJH), a non-governmental, non-profit organization, has been committed to providing comprehensive, cost-free services for people who have been affected by sexual violence, domestic violence, and stalking. We are governed by a board of directors who believe in our mission.

We also provide technical support and training for allied service professionals, schools, houses of worship, law enforcement and community groups at no cost.

 
 

Our Services

Our services include a 24-hour crisis line, emergency shelter, court and hospital accompaniment, safety planning, private counseling, support groups, case management, a resource library, transitional services, food vouchers, emergency pet placement, and referrals to community resources. All of our services are free and confidential.

For sexual violence, domestic violence and stalking issues we offer the following:

Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training:

stewardsAll adults have the responsibility to keep children safe from child sexual abuse. The Hopewell Domestic Violence Taskforce and Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) are partnering to bring the "Stewards of Children" training to the Tri-Cities area. Learn how to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to child sexual abuse. This training is appropriate for parents, grandparents, guardians, teachers, day care workers, counselors, social services personnel, health professionals, youth leaders, faith leaders, and anyone who works with or has an interest in protecting children from sexual abuse.

Date: Monday February 13, 2012 (Inclement weather: in the event that Richmond City or Hopewell schools are closed due to inclement weather, the training will be held Monday, February 27, 2012.)
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Location: John Randolph Medical Center, 411 W. Randolph Road, Hopewell, VA 23830, A/B Classroom in the basement.
Cost: $10.00 (materials cost) Payment must be made by agency check, money order, or in cash at the time of check in (no exceptions). Checks should be made out to: The James House.

Certificates of Completion and CEUs (Social Workers only) will be available upon completion of all 3 hours of training.
